IBBM SL
Essential Learning
For student use from 4/20 - 6/19
Starting Monday, April 20, Essential Learning will begin. Please read below for further information on what that will look like for IBBM SL.
Essential Standards: I've worked with other Skyline business teachers, the ISD CTE department, and other IBBM SL teachers from across the world to identify the Essential Standards IBBM SL students must know (and be able to demonstrate) by the end of Semester 2. Essential Standards are the guaranteed and viable learning goals and outcomes, central to course objectives (for IBBM SL: Assessment Objectives, or AO's), upon which I have based this new content teaching and learning. You can expect to learn content from our remaining two units: Human Resources and Operations. If there is enough time, we will also briefly cover CUEGIS (which is paper 2 part C of the IB exam). For those planning to take IBBM HL next year, I have identified the Essential Standards that will ensure a smooth transition. For those planning to study business in college, this new content will simply help you prepare for your post-secondary studies.
Content: Here's what each week will look like.
Daily Activities: Per ISD guidelines, IBBM SL activities will take place for approximately 25 minutes daily (M-F). These will include a mix of remote lectures and corresponding assigned graded work to check for understanding. Focusing on the established IBBM SL Essential Standards, I will thoughtfully design, create, and implement learning activities in a manner that best fits this course.
Instructional Platforms: Use of Microsoft Teams will be required starting April 20. Please fill out this Agreement (it'll take less than 1 minute) stating that you understand that the use of Microsoft Teams for IBBM SL is required starting April 20 and that you will utilize Teams for remote learning as required. Each IBBM SL class period has its own designated Team (links below), where students can find all Essential Learning materials. You can watch my Microsoft Teams Tutorial here if you need assistance navigating your Team. For general navigation and use of your IBBM SL Team, refer to the items below:
You can access your class period's Team below (using web browser on your computer or the app on your computer or phone). Note: you must log into Microsoft Teams via your ISD email address; if you are having issues logging into Teams, let me know ASAP.
Office Hours: I will host daily Office Hours (M-F) to answer specific student questions regarding Essential Learning content and the 25 minute daily learning activities. Office Hours will be hosted via a separate Team in Microsoft Teams - please join my Office Hours Team by clicking here. In my Office Hours Team, there are separate channels for each IBBM SL chapter that we'll cover during the school closure. If you have questions or need clarification about any Essential Learning content, you can post in the Posts tab of the appropriate chapter's channel at any time and I will respond during my daily Office Hours.
Grading: For IBBM SL assigned work, I will specify in the assignment description how each one will be graded/scored. Grading of assigned work (homework assignments, discussion questions, practice problems, projects, etc) will be based on assignment requirements, expectations, rigor, etc. Overall grading guidelines for Skyline HS from OSPI can be found here.

These will include a mix of remote lectures and corresponding assigned graded work to check for understanding. Focusing on the established IBBM SL Essential Standards, I will thoughtfully design, create, and implement learning activities in a manner that best fits this course.
- For teaching & learning Essential Learning content, this will primarily include pre-recorded, narrated (by yours truly) video lectures with short follow-up questions in quiz format to ensure that you viewed the entire lecture and understand the material.
- For practicing & assessing understanding of Essential Learning content, this will primarily include brief yet meaningful graded homework assignments, discussion questions, practice problems, and projects for you to practice and demonstrate your understanding of the material.
- Please note that 25 minutes per day is not a lot of time, so you may want/need to do some weekly follow-up reading in your IBBM SL textbook.
- At times, I may also provide optional supplementary materials, but required and graded student learning/work will be confined to the 25-minute-per-day guideline.

Please note: all assigned work will be due at 11:59pm the same day it was assigned (no late work accepted)
- Video Lectures tab: This is where all pre-recorded, narrated video lectures will be located for viewing & note-taking; each video lecture will have a title & description so you can ensure you're watching the correct one
- Files tab: This is where I'll post full unit slide decks (without video/narration) once units are complete; occasionally, I may post supplementary learning material (optional & not graded)
- Weekly Channels
- There is a separate channel for each week of the school closure
- Every weekday (M-F), in the Posts tab of each of these weekly channels, I will post information about the required daily learning activity (approx. 25 minutes per day) specifying the basic details of the activity and where to find it.
