IBBM SL
Emergency Education Learning Resources (EELR's)
For student use from 3/13 - 4/10
From March 13-April 10, teachers are not permitted to post or teach any content that has not already been taught in class. This is a district-wide mandate and is in place due to equity issues. That being said, at least 2x per week, I will post Emergency Education Learning Resources (EELR's) that are relevant to IBBM SL curriculum we covered from September to early March (Business Organization, Finance, & Marketing). You can find the IBBM SL EELR's below. Please reach out if you have any questions or comments! Online/virtual leaching & learning of 'Essential Learning' will begin April 20; see Essential Learning tab for more information.

IBBM SL 5-Week Plan (in reverse chronological order)
Week of 4/6-4/12
- Discussion: The current global health crisis has truly affected the way we live, the way we interact with others, the way businesses function. We're seeing a lot of businesses - small sole traders and large corporations alike - getting creative and adapting to this new virtual/remote/online world we're living in. One example is Legoland California, which is hosting an online Building Challenge. You can read more about Legoland's virtual challenge and answer some follow-up questions under the Discussion channel.
- Activity: Ok, (virtually) raise your hand if you've received "an email from our CEO regarding COVID-19" from every business you've ever shopped at/visited/subscribed to/googled/thought about? Yeah, same here. I've received emails from my hair salon, Target, Safeway, Sephora, my childhood dentist... the list goes on. Think back to your 20-page DECA Business Plan. Assume the role of your organization's CEO. Draft an email that you would send to all of your customers, addressing how your business organization is handling the coronavirus outbreak. Go to the General channel, click on the Assignments tab, and complete/submit the assignment there! You can find email examples in the Activities channel.
- Video: We're taking it back to 1.6 when we learned about the process, pros, & cons of franchising! This 5-minute video tells us the history of franchises, which is something we didn't get the chance to learn about. After watching the clip, there's a short follow-up activity. Answer this: if you could open up a location for any franchise, what would it be? The video and follow-up questions can be found in the Videos channel.
- Activity: I posted a list of 'must read' business related books that you can read to up your game! Take a look at the list of recs in the Discussion channel, order one, and get reading!
Week of 3/23-3/29:
- Discussion: We are all aware that the coronavirus outbreak is severely affecting small/local businesses. Using articles/news/personal experience, have a discussion with at least one other person about how small/local businesses have been affected. Discussion directions & questions can be found on your IBBM SL Microsoft Teams page, in the "COVID-19 Effects on Small Businesses" channel. Share the takeaways from your discussion by replying to the discussion post in the Discussion channel!
- Activity: Get those creative juices flowing with this fun, relevant marketing activity! Start by choosing a local business (Issaquah, Sammamish, greater Seattle, Washington State). Then, describe how this business has been affected by the coronavirus outbreak (answer questions such as: has the business... had to reduce their scope of work? been forced to close? gotten creative with how their services are provided? etc). Finally, come up with a creative, engaging marketing plan for this business, once things are "back to normal." How will this business bounce back and re-introduce themselves to the public after the crisis? Utilize the marketing mix to do so; product, pricing, place, and promotion strategies are all fair game! Then, share your ideas via the Small Business Marketing Plan Assignment, located in the Assignments tab in the General channel.
- Video Lecture: Let's finish up the Marketing unit with the 4th & final P of the marketing mix: Promotion! This pre-recorded narrated (by yours truly) video lecture will walk you through ATL & BTL promotions, the promotional mix, the integration of promotions and technology, and guerilla marketing. You can find this lecture in the Video Lectures tab in the General channel.
